WEEK SEISMICITY REPORT FOR APRIL 14, 2025 TO APRIL 20, 2025
During the week of April 14, 2025, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 466 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was magnitude 5.2 that occurred on April 15 at 19:49:48 AKDT (April 16, 03:49:48 UTC), 50 miles S of Mt. Gareloi. There were also 11 other earthquakes in this same area throughout the week, ranging in magnitude from 2.0 to 4.0.
There were 3 felt events this week. The first was a magnitude 4.5 earthquake that occurred on April 18 at 23:18:55 AKDT, 13 miles NW of Tyonek. This event was reported as felt in the Anchorage area.
The next felt event was a magnitude 3.1 earthquake that occurred on April 19 at 00:40:10 AKDT, 58 miles NW of Skwentna. This event was reported as felt in the Anchorage area as well.
The third felt event was a magnitude 3.9 earthquake in Cook Inlet, 14 miles NW of Ninilchik. This event occurred on April 19 at 05:01:27 AKDT and was reported as felt in Homer and Kenai.
There was a slight increase of activity in the Kaktovik area, with 9 events ranging in magnitude from 1.2 to 2.9.
Additionally, we recorded 3 icequakes this week, all in the Prince William Sound.
