WEEK SEISMICITY REPORT FOR APRIL 15, 2024 TO APRIL 21, 2024
During the week of April 15, 2024, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 856 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was magnitude 4.6 that occurred on April 15 at 10:17:02 AKDT (April 15, 18:17:02 UTC), 2 miles S of Attu.
Some of the noteworthy events include a magnitude 3.8 earthquake that occurred 11 miles S of Bobrof Island on April 19, 2024 04:53:53 AKDT and a magnitude 3.6 earthquake that occurred 8 miles S of Bobrof Island on April 19, 2024 08:05:25 AKDT. Including these events, we observed high activity of this area with 139 events during this week, ranging in magnitudes between 0.9 - 3.8.
Another significant event was a magnitude 4.2 earthquake that occurred 39 miles SE of Deering on April 19, 2024 04:41:45 AKDT.
We recorded 22 icequakes recorded in the Prince William Sound, Icy Bay, and Yakutat Bay.
There were 3 suspected quarry blasts (M1.0 - M1.1) located in the Goldstream Valley, and two of these events were reported as felt in Fairbanks during this week.
