During the week of April 22, 2024, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 902 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was magnitude 4.9 that occurred on April 26 at 20:42:59 AKDT (April 27, 04:42:59 UTC), 36 miles E of Amchitka.

Some notable events this week include a magnitude 3.9 earthquake that occurred 23 miles southeast of Holy Cross on April 22, 2024, at 01:10:34 AKDT, a rare event for this region. Additionally, a magnitude 3.6 earthquake occurred 14 miles northeast of Mt. Douglas on April 27, 2024, at 20:50:51 AKDT, which was reported in Homer. A magnitude 3.4 earthquake was recorded 33 miles north of Juneau on April 22, 2024, at 05:37:28 AKDT, and was felt in Juneau.

We also observed elevated activity near the Red Dog Mine site in the western part of the Brooks Range, with 41 events ranging from magnitude 1.0 to 3.7. Additionally, we recorded increased activity near the Point Hope region, with 8 events ranging from magnitude 1.6 to 2.6.

Furthermore, there were 57 icequakes recorded in the Prince William Sound, Icy Bay, and Yakutat Bay regions.
