WEEK SEISMICITY REPORT FOR AUGUST 5, 2024 TO AUGUST 11, 2024

During the week of August 5, 2024, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 658 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was magnitude 4.0 that occurred on August 8 at 12:50:52 AKDT (August 8, 20:50:52 UTC), 14 miles SW of Segula Peak.

Another event, a magnitude 3.1, occurred 20 miles SE of Minto on August 9, 2024 at 13:16:38 AKDT. This earthquake had 14 aftershocks throughout August 9. The mainshock was recorded as felt.

Swarm activity in Seward Peninsula was recorded with 12 events during this week. 

We also observed an increase in the swarm activity E of Atka again this week, with 18 events ranging from magnitude 1.9-3.3.

There were 10 icequakes recorded in the Prince William Sound, Icy Bay, Yakutat Bay, and Mt. Spurr. 

Two events were reported as felt this week.
