MONTH SEISMICITY REPORT FOR FEBRUARY 2025

During the month of February 2025, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 2757 earthquakes within the state with magnitudes ranging between 1.2 and 5.7 and depths between 0 and 256 km The largest earthquake was magnitude 5.7 that occurred on February 13 at 14:59:27 AKDT (February 13, 23:59:27 UTC), 96 miles S of Akhiok https://earthquake.alaska.edu/event/025215oy3m  This event was reported as felt in Kodiak. There were sixteen other earthquakes with magnitudes greater than 4.0.

We observed seismic activity in Bering Strait in February 2025. About 50 earthquakes were located there with magnitudes ranging between 3.0 and 4.6.

We reported 66 seismic sources other than regional tectonic earthquakes. Of these, 17 were suspected quarry blasts (magnitudes M=1.2-2.2), most of which were located in the vicinity of either Fort Knox or Usibelli mines in Interior Alaska. The reported events included 29 icequakes (magnitudes M=1.2-1.8), primarily located in the Prince William Sound, Icy Bay, and Yakutat Bay areas. We also characterized 20 quakes as seismic events associated with volcanic activity (M=1.2-2.8) and depths 0.5-8 km, primarily at the Mt Spurr.

16 earthquakes reported as felt in February.  The largest number of Did You Feel It (DYFI) responses, 1387, came from the M4.1 earthquake that occurred February 4th at 11:07PM  29 miles west of Anchorage.  https://earthquake.alaska.edu/event/0251no5hd4
