WEEK SEISMICITY REPORT FOR OCTOBER 28, 2024 TO NOVEMBER 3, 2024

During the week of October 28, 2024, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported 798 earthquakes within the state. The largest earthquake was magnitude 5.8 that occurred on November 3 at 01:56:47 AKST (November 3, 10:56:47 UTC), 42 miles S of Atka Pass. This event was not reported as felt, and generated 49 aftershocks through the week, ranging from 1.5 to 3.9 in magnitude.


Swarm activity south of Kaktovik continues to reduce from previous weeks, with 14 events ranging in magnitudes of 1.3 to 1.5, down from last weeks 32 events.

Two earthquakes were reported as felt this week. The first was a magnitude 2.6 earthquake on October 27th. It occurred just 4 miles from North Pole, and was reported as being felt across Fairbanks, North Pole, and the Eielson AFB.
The second was a magnitude 3.5 earthquake on October 30th, and was reported as felt across the Mat-Su Valley and Anchorage areas.

This week, 6 icequakes were recorded in the Yakutat Bay and Prince William Sound areas, and 5 quarry blasts were recorded.
